how sound signals are converted into electro magnetic signals for communication through fiber optics?

Now-a-days tele-communications are using fiber optics to send signals. But what is the mechanism behind the converstion of sound waves into light waves?

1. There are pulses of light like you know dots.. ... ... ...... each couple of dots means information or well i think or i have read maybe im wrong but tthere is the conversion box which makes those pulses of light into 1's and 0's which is all you need to make information same for sounds like call's 1's and 0's make words=sites=net=everything :-D
2. Light is just another part of the electro-magnetic spectrum, the same as radio waves. The light waves can be modulated and demodulated, either analog or digital, in the same fashion as other radio waves that bring you AM and FM radio as well as television.
3. Remember those old WWII movies where they used spotlights with a flashy door thingie to send Morse code? Well, similar to that.
