Would a big magnifying glass out in space be a good weapon?
I was wondering if our military are working on sending a very large magnifying glass out in space to vaporize people or even entire buildings?

- shhhhhh...you're not supposed to talk about that stuff
- No. Not only would it be impractical, considering the it and the person would have to be at an exact angle with the sun, it would be incredibly vulnerable to space trash/rocks.
- it would have to be big....like the size of uranus.
- no. a magnifying glass bends light to increase the size you see. by bending the light it produces a more concentrated light. that is why you can use it to start fires or kill ants. but the effect is, all in all, not that powerful. compared to the laser in your cd drive on your computer, its diddly squat. so it is not feasible to use a giant one as a weapon. weaponry is already much much muhc much more advanced then that.
- Do you know how big the magnifying glass would have to be in order to do that? Miles long. I'd say probably 100miles by 100 miles. Why in the hell would the military invest in a weapon like that when they already have a high powered invisible laser to do the job? Also, even if it was done...the magnifying glass would be so big that once you reveal it in front of the sun, it will take minutes or even hours to reposition it, unless it had a rocket fueled engine and sliding covers to conceal the reflective glass. It's impractical.
- I think we should actually attach a rubber band between the moon and a satelite to make a giant outer space sling shot.
- They have lots of those in space already. They can see all the way down to earth and after watching you can make you go boom. Satallites anyone? come on now.
