I am looking for a full page reading magnifying glass for my mother?
My mother is 77 years old and her eyesight is very weak. Do you or your parents use a certain type of magnifying glass for reading. I think the one that would be best is the one that you can just place over the page rather than hold it with your hands.

- something like this? http://www.dynamic-living.com/full-page-magnifier.htm that one looks hand-held, tho. a low vision specialist is probably the person for her to see and for you to be asking.
- If you want a magnifier that works well, you can get those magnifiers that are on a stand, have a round lens, and a surrounding circular fluorescent bulb. You put the stand next to the table or chair, put the magnifier in front of your face a bit, and hold the book or ? in front. YOu can use the light or not. If she has macular disease, which seems sort of apparent here, you might try one of the televideo machines. There are a number of styles. Some have a platform onto which you can put a book, checkbook, letter...bills...and write or read or ? They're a bit costly ranging from used ones around $300 or so to the $2800 ones with the little flat screens. Uses a video camera in color or black and white, and projects a REALLY ENLARGED image so people with visions of 20/80 or so can read. One can find these on Creigslist, ebay and other sites. Then there's the hand held ones, the bar ones, the rest on the thing ones with little legs,....etc. There will be a Center for the Blind establishment somewhere near you that deals with low vision problems and aids. She can also get a parking placard if she wants one. If she gets a white cane with red tip...gives her the right of way..wherever. Usually there's an optometrist in each city that 'specializes' in Low Vision. They have amazing insight to this type of problem and can really, really help some of these patients.
